What we cover
Major U.S. events only: the most serious National Weather Service warnings (for example tornado and flash flood emergencies, hurricane and storm surge warnings, and tornado or flash flood warnings with a considerable or catastrophic damage threat), earthquakes of magnitude 4 or more in the U.S., and new FEMA disaster declarations. Most alerts do not get a page.
Where the facts come from
Every page is built from the official record: the NWS alert (api.weather.gov), the USGS earthquake catalog, and FEMA's OpenFEMA data sets, plus FEMA flood-insurance claims and disaster declarations for the area. Each page links its sources.
How the text is written
The text is written with AI (Anthropic's Claude) from the official data only. Before a page is published, software checks that every number and every quote appears in the official data; pages that fail are held back. Pages are updated when the agency extends, changes or ends the event.
What these pages are not
They are not an emergency alert system and not a forecast. In an emergency, follow your local officials and the National Weather Service, and keep your phone's Wireless Emergency Alerts on.
